Adaptive partial decode-and-forward of Turbo codes for OBP satellites

Abstract：An adaptive partial decode-and-forward (APDF) algorithm was developed for on-board processing (OBP) for the high processing complexity Turbo decoder with limited processing resources. This algorithm reduces the number of iterations to lower the resource consumption. The adaptive algorithm contains an upper level where the range of iterations is determined by the link quality and an inner level using an early stopping criterion to reduce computations. The two levels of adaption are combined to decreases the average number of iterations while the performance is improved compared with the partial iterative decode method with fixed iterations.
