Visualized correction of English monophthongs for Tibetan speakers

Abstract:The need for Tibetan speakers to improve their English requires effective tools to help them. Data extracted from "the Corpus of Chinese Mandarin, English, and Tibetan by Tibetan Speakers" (CETTS) was used to design a visualized model of tongue positions to help Tibetan speakers better understand the features of their production of English monophthongs. The easy-to-use software developed in this study provides real-time feedback which can help Tibetan speakers improve their English production and their English communication. The visualized model and the software can be used to improve the efficiency of English phonetics teaching.
