Abstract  A 980 nm near infrared laser was used to stimulate the auditory nerve in guinea pig cochlea to provide useful optical parameters for the development of an optical cochlear implant. The 980 nm pulsed laser can evoke optical compound action potentials (oCAPs) from guinea pig cochlea. The experimental results also demonstrate the security of optical stimulus and larger optical intensities not always giving better results.
